The Herne Bay Sculpture Trail was commissioned by Canterbury City Council as part of the landscaping work associated with the Herne Bay Sea Defence Scheme. The trail encompasses the work of five artists in different sites stretching along the Herne Bay Sea Front.Canterbury City Council, commissioned the artists to develop environmental art features which would have aesthetic appeal, appropriate to the people who live and work in Herne Bay. Artists were encouraged to project the appeal of the traditional English Seaside resort to holiday-makers with a touch of fun and humour. They were also asked to consider the Victorian theme, reflected in the recent landscaping, and to use traditional materials with low maintenance requirements."
The prize money was used to produce an information pack for the Herne Bay Sculpture Trail.
