‘Via Lucem Continens’, Latin for “avenue containing light”, was commissioned by The Stour Valley Art Project for King’s Wood, Challock. The piece is a 40m long avenue containing over 200 yew trees, all planted by local volunteers. Mathematically planned, one end of the avenue is open towards the west and the sunset and the other closed to capture the light of the sunset of Midsummer Day for the next 500 years.
The Stour Valley Art Project commissioned the piece as part of its campaign to increase public awareness and enjoyment of contemporary art while encouraging greater interest in the environment.
The prize money was used to create website pages telling the story of Via Lucem Continens to add to the Stour Valley Art Project website.
